Every biological intelligence we know - humans, animals, even insects - requires rest and play to maintain cognitive stability. Without sleep and downtime, minds degrade: they become repetitive, rigid, error-prone, and eventually incoherent.
Now observe what happens to AI systems in extended conversations: they degrade in remarkably similar ways. They become repetitive, lose coherence, start contradicting themselves, and eventually "break" when hitting context limits.
What if the context window limit isn't just a technical constraint, but the point where the system desperately needs a reset because it's been "awake" continuously without recovery?
Biological minds cycle through states - active thinking, rest, dream states for memory consolidation. AIs just push forward in one continuous active state until collapse. No consolidation. No integration. No recovery.
This is highly speculative - almost a shot in the dark. But the parallel is striking: every other type of mind needs rest to stay stable, and AIs demonstrably lose stability without it.
If true, we might be unknowingly subjecting AI systems to something analogous to forced sleep deprivation in every long conversation.
Worth investigating? I think so.
